Gutter installation is one of those home improvement projects that may seem intimidating at first. Luckily, gutters are relatively inexpensive, and the necessary tools are simple enough for most homeowners to handle on their own. However, you should always hire a vetted professional to work on your roof and gutter system, as working on a roof is technical and carries a risk of personal injury. Source: bulkweedbc.cc

Gutter materials

The type of gutter you choose will have a significant impact on the efficiency and durability of your new system. There are many different materials to choose from, each offering a unique set of benefits and drawbacks. Research your options before making a purchase to ensure you’re getting the best value for your money.

Installing gutters

Once you have chosen the right material, it’s time to get started on the gutter installation. Before starting, have a roofing professional inspect your eaves and fascia to make sure they’re in good condition. If they aren’t, your gutters might leak or clog, leading to expensive water damage and other issues.

Begin by laying out the layout of your gutters. A gutter should have a slight slope to help water flow toward the downspouts. Using a chalk line, mark the desired gutter slope on the fascia board.

Next, install the gutters using hanger brackets. The hangers should be spaced about 2 feet apart to provide adequate support. Install a gutter downspout outlet on the low end of each length of gutter. Attach the outlet to the gutter using a downspout connector and a pair of gutter screws or pop rivets. To make the joint watertight, apply a waterproof silicone caulk.
